ABOUT

Guitarist, composer, arranger, teacher.

Luca Gelli played guitar for 10 years with Dirotta su Cuba, a funky Italian cult band which whom he recorded the album “Studio Session Vol.1” in 2016. He performed hundreds of concerts in Italy and Europe, mainly jazz, funk and pop acts as a sideman and as a guest. He collaborated with Antonello Salis, Massimo Moriconi, Massimo Manzi, Nico Gori, Mia Cooper. He recorded 8 albums, two with The Jelly Factory, the band where he’s leader/composer/arranger.
Luca started playing at 16 (in the beginning with ha 3 strings guitar borrowed from a friend), approaching blues and inspired by John Lee Hooker, Jimi Hendrix, Santana, Led Zeppelin, Beatles…Later on he spent a few years studying mainly jazz in Florence, the at the Berklee College of Music in Boston (1997). He graduated in jazz at the Cherubini Conservatory in Florence in 2012 with the maximum valuation.
He started teaching 2001 at the CAM in Florence for 7 years. In 2013 he started teaching at the Lizard Academy where he is now jazz department director.
