Czeck Magazine Muzikus has interviewed DV Mark top-artist Greg Howe during the last tour with Protocol.
Here some excerpts from the interview (translated in English):
Playing with Simon Phillips is challenging, but it is very fun and musical challenge. I enjoy it. And there is a lot of room for improvisation. The song are very structured. But there are places where we can expand nd explore. It is very nice balance, it’s about 50:50. Some things are very ensemble, very rehearsed, that have to be in particular way. But everybody has solo section whe you can stretch out.
I played with Michael Jackson for five weeks in 1997. And even though his music is not, maybe, as complex as Simon’s, the band is really tight and in the pocket and the groove is really precise. It was not that easy to be on point with that. That was a great experience for me, understanding the importance of groove and the pocket.
Guys from DV Mark approached me a few years ago. They said: „We have some stuff we want to send to you.“ They sent me some amps that sounded fine but were not really working for me. Then they said: „What do you need?“ I said: „Well, what I need is something I can’t describe in an email. If you wanna fly me out there we can work together and develop some stuff. And they did. They flew me out there many times. It’s a great company, they’re really good people. We have a prototype now that you’ll hear tonight. That I love, I really love. But it is not in production yet. We’re still waiting to see what’s gonna happen with it, but I love it.
